ABC1

The ABC1 scale refers to the correlation displayed between social class and their favoured style of films. An example of this is the lower class enjoying fantasy/escapist films because it allows them to escape their comparatively bleak lives in favour of something with more action and excitement. Secondly the lower class will not want to watch gritty dramas because it relates to closely to their own lives.

This differs from the upper classes, or people with a social grade of B or above, preferred genre of film. The preferred genre would be thriller or drama. This is because these people will watch things that could be seen as more intellectually challenging as opposed to films that just contain action and explosions.
